Weddings and Baptisms

WeddingsWeddings

At this church we believe in marriage. The marriage vows that bind two people together are at the heart of what we do in offering a hospitable, friendly and efficient wedding service. A Christian marriage ceremony is not for everyone as it involves making a lifetime commitment to one another in the presence of God, as well as family and friends. If you are willing to participate in the process of preparing to make these vows to one another then we will be delighted to help you.

This ancient building with modern facilities provides a great venue for a brilliant country wedding. The church seats about 100 people with additional seating in a video linked overflow in the adjoining ‘Cloisters’ facility. The beautiful medieval building needs minimal decoration but obviously many couples choose to adorn it with flowers for their special day. In keeping with the architecture of the building the marriage service is traditional but also light enough to embrace joyful humour and a sense of fun. Our team of bell ringers provide a great sense of occasion as does the church organ which often ushers in the bride. We are as flexible as possible about music and photography and all we ask of our guests is that they respect this special building.

There are some legal requirements and preliminaries required for a church wedding so we recommend that you contact us before making any arrangements. Many people who hold their wedding receptions at the adjacent ‘Black Barn’ come to us to be married at the church and we are always happy to discuss this with anyone who is considering this option.

If you are interested in being married at St Mary’s we encourage you to come to one of our church services so that we can meet you and introduce ourselves. Details about bookings and fees can in the first instance be obtained by sending an email to the Rector:
Rev. Dr. Christopher Noble at  rev.stmarysstansted@gmail.com
